Bangkok with Kids: A Family Adventure in the Heart of Asia

Having visited Bangkok with my husband before our child was born, we had already experienced the city’s rich cultural heritage. Back then, we dedicated our trip to exploring the city’s renowned temples, delving into the local religion, and soaking in the historical atmosphere.

Bangkok’s temples are a must-visit for anyone traveling to the capital, offering a profound glimpse into the cultural and spiritual heart of Thailand.

This time, however, our journey took a different turn as we embarked on a new adventure with our little one. With a toddler in tow, we sought out family-friendly attractions and activities, discovering a new side of Bangkok.

Although our time was limited, we made the most of our five-night stay, creating unforgettable memories and gaining fresh insights into this vibrant city. Here’s a glimpse into how we spent our days in Bangkok, blending familiar sites with new explorations to accommodate our growing family.

What's This About?

Relaxed and Memorable Adventures

We didn’t have any grand plans for Bangkok. Traveling with a small child meant that we weren’t focused on daily excursions or trying to see as much of the city as possible. Instead, we enjoyed our journey at a relaxed pace, appreciating the new environment and taking things easy.

Each day, we made an effort to watch the sunset from different vantage points around the city. Additionally, we had one extensive excursion where we visited both the floating market and the market on the train tracks.

Bangkok Adventures: Train Market Thrills and Floating Market Delights

We were eager to see the floating market and the market on the train tracks, two of Bangkok’s most iconic and unique attractions. Initially, we naively thought we could visit these places on our own.

However, we quickly realized that it wasn’t practical. Taking the bus would be a long and arduous journey, especially with a small child. Opting for a taxi didn’t seem any better, as it would cost almost as much, if not more, than an organized tour.

Realizing the challenges, we decided to search for an excursion online. To our delight, we found a highly recommended tour that included both markets. Within a couple of days, we were comfortably seated on a tour bus, ready to explore.

Our guide was not only knowledgeable but also incredibly engaging and charismatic, making the journey as enjoyable as the destinations themselves.

Our first stop was the market on the train tracks. This market was an extraordinary sight, with vendors setting up their stalls right on the tracks. It was fascinating to watch as, with the train’s approach, the vendors quickly moved their goods off the tracks in a well-practiced routine.

Tourists pressed against the nearby stalls to avoid the passing train. The whole process was both thrilling and a testament to the resourcefulness of the local vendors.

After the train had passed through the market, we boarded it and rode back through the bustling stalls. From the train window, we watched as tourists pressed against the market stalls, waiting for the train to pass while eagerly photographing the scene.

Our daughter thoroughly enjoyed the train ride, smiling and waving at everyone outside as we traveled through the market.

After experiencing the excitement of the Maeklong Railway Market, we traveled to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. Here, we boarded a small boat and drifted through the narrow canals. Vendors sold their goods from boats, offering everything from fresh produce to delicious street food.

We tasted some of the most popular snacks, bought souvenirs, and enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere. The colorful surroundings and the lively interactions between sellers and buyers were a delight to witness.

Our child was thrilled with the entire experience, finding it truly fascinating. Therefore, we confidently recommend taking your little ones to these amazing spots in Bangkok.
